Liability Waiver and Release

1. Assumption of Risk

I acknowledge that participating in a road race is a potentially hazardous activity. I understand that the risks associated with participating in this event include, but are not limited to:

• Physical injury, including but not limited to sprains, strains, fractures, and cardiovascular events
• Contact or collision with other participants, vehicles, pedestrians, or fixed objects
• Weather-related hazards including heat exhaustion, hypothermia, or lightning
• Uneven or hazardous road conditions, obstacles, or debris on the course
• Actions of other participants, volunteers, spectators, or third parties

I certify that I am physically fit and have sufficiently trained for the completion of this event. I have not been advised by a qualified medical professional against participation in this event.

2. Release and Waiver of Liability

In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Chicago Waterfront 10K, I, for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, hereby release, waive, and discharge any and all claims for damages for personal injury, death, or property damage which I may have, or which may hereafter accrue to me, against the following parties:

• The Chicago Waterfront 10K organizing committee and race directors
• The City of Chicago and its officials, employees, and agents
• Event sponsors, vendors, and contractors
• All volunteers and course marshals
• Any and all affiliated organizations, their officers, directors, employees, and agents

This release extends to all claims of every kind or nature whatsoever, foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown.

3. Medical Treatment Authorization

I authorize race officials and medical personnel to provide me with medical treatment and/or transport if deemed necessary during or after the event. I understand that I am solely responsible for all costs associated with any medical treatment or transportation.

I acknowledge that race officials have the authority to remove me from the course if they determine that my continued participation poses a danger to myself or others.

4. Image and Publicity Release

I grant permission to the Chicago Waterfront 10K and its authorized representatives to use my name, voice, photograph, video, or likeness in any media for publicity, promotional, or commercial purposes without compensation or prior approval.

I understand that photographs, videos, and recordings may be taken during the event and that these materials become the property of the event organizers.

5. Personal Property

I understand that the event organizers are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property before, during, or after the event. This includes but is not limited to clothing, electronic devices, valuables, and vehicles.

6. Rules and Regulations

I agree to abide by all event rules and regulations as outlined in the Rules of Competition. I understand that failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification and removal from the event without refund.

I acknowledge that race officials have the authority to modify, delay, or cancel the event due to weather conditions, public safety concerns, or other circumstances beyond their control. No refunds will be issued for event modifications or cancellations.

7. COVID-19 and Communicable Disease Acknowledgment

I acknowledge that an inherent risk of exposure to communicable diseases, including COVID-19, exists in any public gathering. I voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to communicable diseases and agree not to hold the event organizers liable for any illness contracted as a result of participating in this event.

8. Indemnification

I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Chicago Waterfront 10K, the City of Chicago, and all related parties from any and all claims, demands, losses, or liability arising out of my participation in this event, including but not limited to claims by third parties for injuries or damages caused by my actions.

9. Severability

If any provision of this waiver is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that this waiver shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.

10. Parent/Guardian Consent (For Minors)

If the participant is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent and agree to all terms of this waiver on behalf of the minor participant.

As the parent or legal guardian of the minor participant, I certify that the minor is physically capable of participating in this event. I accept full responsibility for any injury or damages that may occur and agree to all terms of this waiver on behalf of the minor.
